The Power of the Master Mind

"The Master Mind may be defined as coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.” - Napoleon Hill

When I first began my internet journey, I envisioned myself as working alone. Free of the constraints of traditional employment, I valiantly began to forge my way.

Like others who have gone before, I was proud of my entrepreneurial spirit.

I could do this on my own!

First I sought out training, to head in the right direction. Next, I needed some internet tools and services to accomplish the tasks at hand.

Alone in my home office, I furiously worked away. Writing web pages, learning about keywords, studying social marketing. I launched my website and soon began the process of building my email subscriber list.

And then something else happened.

I encountered challenges that were, well, challenging! Knowing that others have gone before me, and trying not to reinvent the wheel, I began to seek out online forums for support.

Although that was helpful, I became aware that these collective skills could somehow be put to better use.

Something was missing.

Think and Grow Rich

A little text that had crossed my path a while ago came to mind. First published in 1937, Think and Grow Rich has become a must-read for entrepreneurs of all kinds.

Frankly, it’s a good read for anyone.

Following a challenge put to him by American businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, Napoleon Hill spent twenty years interviewing “exceedingly wealthy” people of his day.

After collecting and studying more than 500 such interviews, he developed a method for accumulating wealth. A specific system for creating the life you really want to live.

Hill's system consists of 13 Steps to Riches. What was hanging around at the back of my mind was Step Number 9:

Power of the Master Mind: The Driving Force.

That thought hung around, and didn’t make it to the front of my mind until something else happened.

The Group That Came to Me

I continued to turn to online forums for answers to some of the challenges of my internet business. And I was fortunate to have a couple of mentors who began to take notice of my efforts.

That’s when the shift began.

It wasn’t long before I was invited to join an amazing and versatile group of inspired internet marketers.

I said yes.

Varying in experience, and with differing skills, we began to find our identity as a group. While each of us remain an independent entrepreneur, we also have a commitment to support each other in our efforts.

Step Number 9 now made it into my conscious mind, front and center.

I had found my Master Mind group!

Or more accurately, they had found me.

The Power of Group Thought

Much has been said about the power of groups. People working together can accomplish far more, in less time, than the individual. And yet somehow, it’s not just because there are more hands on deck.

A kind of synergy emerges, as the group bonds, finds its identity and begins to take on a life of its own.

Synergy (from the Greek syn-ergos, συνεργός meaning working together)

Synergy is the term used to describe a situation where different entities cooperate advantageously for a final outcome. Simply defined, it means that the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts.

-Webster's Dictionary

And through this synergy, very concrete results can happen. Here are some of the benefits I experience as part of a Master Mind group:

Shared resources

Projects accomplished in partnership

Ongoing support from trusted colleagues

Access to the collective skills of the group

Brainstorming possibilities

Troubleshooting assistance

Common mission

Sense of a greater purpose

Creating Your Master Mind Group

As you actively work to build your online business, begin to take note of others of like mind. You can find them in online forums, through blog posts and webinars. You may find them among your list of email subscribers.

While like me, you could receive an invitation, there is no need to wait for one.

Form your own group. Invite those who are a good fit for you.

Discuss your group identity and set goals for that which you wish to accomplish together. Access the resources of the group to grow your business, as you support others in doing the same.

Let the synergy begin.
