Your marketing plan is an essential piece of your Internet marketing puzzle. This is definitely a tool you want to have in your home business pocket.
• Analysis • Target • Goals • Strategies • Budget |
The first two elements on the list will be conducted when you are in your startup or pre-launch phase. They may also be adjusted as your business develops and grows.
The final three elements will be an ongoing part of maintaining your internet home business.
Analyze Your Situation
In marketing, this first element is referred to as situation analysis. This is the first building block of your business. Without this step, you don’t know what you’re doing or where you’re headed! This can be done very simply, with a short description of your home based business, followed by any challenges you can identify. This is an overview of your present circumstances.
If you are just launching your home business, this will be a brief description of your vision for that business.
For example:
Description Market nutritional products to baby boomers. Challenges Create multiple income streams Develop attraction marketing techniques
|
Apply this to your own situation, and revise it as you go along. Sometimes things become more apparent as you begin to implement your internet marketing plan.
Identify Your Target Audience
Although you may believe that the whole world could benefit from what you have to offer, that simply is too broad a base for your marketing plan. You may note that in the analysis above, the target group has already been identified. This may or may not be true for you.
There are often two factors present when choosing your target market.
The first comes directly from your own life.
Are you a grandparent?
Retiree?
Been downsized out of a job?
Raise your kids as a single parent?
Were you a stay-at-home mom?
Do you wish you could have been?
Look for a group of people about whom you feel some energy, some passion, a high degree of interest. Then move on to the second factor:
Is this a viable target audience for my business?
Do your research. Find out who is searching for what on the Internet.
Use the search engines and notice what articles appear and whom those articles are targeting.
Put some time and thought into selecting your target group.
Set Realistic Goals
Much has been said about the importance of goal-setting. It always helps to know where you want to go, in order to move in that direction! However, there is something deeper at play here as well.
Identify your goals Write them down Read them regularly Say them aloud |
This reminds you of your goals, and also does something very powerful:
Embeds your goals into your subconscious mind.
Hypnosis, or hypnotherapy, is one tool for working directly with your subconscious mind. I have used hypnotherapy in my personal life for many years, to identify and then change patterns of behavior. After I became a Certified Hypnotherapist, I used similar techniques to assist clients, with amazing and sometimes quite rapid results. Your subconscious mind is powerful. Use it to your benefit. |
If you find that you are setting goals, and continually not meeting them, you may want to adjust your goals.
Keep it simple. Set both short-term and long-term goals.
Be realistic, and yet challenge yourself! This may seem tricky, as it is important to dream big.
Don’t downsize your dream. Adjust your plan to realize it.
Sometimes all we need to change is the time factor involved.
Strategies and Implementation
Strategies and their implementation represent the bulk of the work in creating a successful home business. First you strategize!
The Mind Dump Exercise Get yourself a piece of paper (or your word processing program, if you prefer), and list everything you can think of in terms of online marketing strategies. Do not censor yourself, do not edit. Just have at it! Now take that same list, and select your top five. Put them on a separate piece of paper (or word processing page), and opposite each one, list ways of implementing that strategy. If you come up with a strategy without an implementation plan, try replacing it with a different strategy. |
The implementation of your strategies is the part of your marketing plan where you begin to use those Internet marketing tools you have been studying.
In fact, it’s likely that most of your learning will be done as you decide to try out that particular strategy and its related tools. It’s on-the-job-training, and it can work well for you.
Strategize first. Then find or create ways to implement each startegy.
Develop Your Marketing Budget
Having a budget for your marketing plan is absolutely essential.
Although this may appear last on the list, it is a priority. If you’re cringing and begin to slink away from your computer, come on back. You’re not alone.
Many of us have difficulty creating a budget for ourselves in our personal lives, and this can translate to our business.
It’s best not to make that mistake.
While there are a variety of tools and services required to launch your Internet home business, many are quite inexpensive and some are even free. The budget for your online business can be very low.
How low is very low?
Start with what works for you. $50 per month? $100?
As your business grows, and your revenues increase, adjust your budget accordingly.
Budget what you can, when you can.
Track and Revise
As you try out your different strategies with your marketing plan, remember to track their progress. Notice what is working for you, and what is not producing the results you want, then revise and adjust your plan as needed.
