The Law of Attraction

In recent years, The Law of Attraction has received a lot of attention. What is it? How can it be put to use in your life? What does it have to do with building a home business anyway?

Little Movie with a Big Secret

Not long ago, a little documentary movie made its way around the internet and beyond.

The Secret* claims to have unearthed the hidden truth behind all of life.

What is revealed is a universal law, said to be known and used by many of the great thinkers of their day. Yet it had remained shrouded in secrecy.

What continually operates behind the scenes and determines our destiny?

The Law of Attraction:
That which is like unto itself, is drawn.

Stated in more simple terms: Like attracts like.

The Secret shows testimony from several well-known folks in the personal development field, as well as a variety of successful people, whose careers span a range of work:

• Medical Doctor • Author • Metaphysician • Financial Strategist
• Psychologist • Quantum Physicist • Therapist • Philosopher
• Feng Shui Consultant • Investment Trainer • Visionary
• Entrepreneur

The similarity between them all is that each has developed an understanding of The Law of Attraction and uses it in their own life. Powerful testimony for something so simple.

Or is it?

The Power of Thought

The very same year that The Secret was making its way around the globe, Hay House published a book by Esther and Jerry Hicks, motivational speakers and longtime proponents of attracting the life you want to live. The book was simply called: The Law of Attraction. It seemed that its time had come.

The concept behind this universal law is that we create our lives with our thoughts. In other words:

Whatever we think about is what we attract into our lives.

From my experience with hypnosis, I am well aware of the power of thought. Even more than conscious thought, the subconscious mind directs our behavior. When subconscious beliefs and conscious thought and desire are in alignment, amazing things can happen.

What is more common, however, is a disconnect between the two.

We may desire financial freedom, and “put our mind to it.” We aim in that direction, take appropriate action, think good thoughts. We may even put a vison board up on our wall, with images of everything we want to bring into our lives.

And yet. . . if there is a subconscious sense of failure, some inner voice that just doesn’t believe all this success will happen, guess what? It doesn’t.

So what is the key?

Thought, Imagination, Emotion

Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.
– Albert Einstein

In hypnotherapy, we talk about the imagination as the bridge between the conscious and the subconscious mind. Sometimes when working in a light trance state, someone feels as though nothing is happening. A way to move beyond this is to simply make something up.

The imagination allows one to cross into the subconscious realm, wherein lie all those emotions, stored for a lifetime.

By accessing your emotions, you can make real change in your life. It’s powerful stuff.

So what does this have to do with thoughts?

The key is to find the link between the thought of the desire, and the emotion that having it brings. When you do that, you engage all the power of The Law of Attraction.

An Exercise in Feeling

Try this simple exercise. It's a blend of affirmations and self-hypnosis.

Think of one thing you desire in your life, that you do not now have.
Form that desire into a sentence in the present tense, as though it has already manifest in your life. Start with this phrase:

Now that I. . .

Complete the phrase and say it out loud, calmly and clearly three times.

For example, lets say I really want a different living situation. I want to live in my dream home. I might say this:

Now that I live in my dream home, each day is magical.

That’s a good affirmation. Positive and playful. It's about what I desire, phrased in the present tense.

Now lets add some visualization, and a little rewording, to engage the emotions.

In this version, I suggest you find somewhere comfortable to sit, where you can be undisturbed.

Sit back and relax.

Take a deep breath and release it. Do this three times.

With your eyes closed, say your sentence once, and this time begin with this phrase:

I am so happy and grateful now that I. . .

Take another deep breath and release it.

Engaging your imagination, begin to see what you desire. For the example above, I would begin to see my dream home, not from the outside, from within it.

I picture myself in the living room, taking in all the details of the room.
As I move from room to room, I notice all that is within. How do I feel about each of the rooms? Who else is present? Is anything missing?

Fill out the picture with as much detail as possible. Staying right with that image, say your new sentence again:

I am so happy and grateful now that I. . .

Be inside the image of your desire.

Feel what it is like to have what you desire.

Stay with the feeling, the image, and again repeat your sentence:

I am so happy and grateful now that I. . .

Stay with this exercise as long as you like. When you are ready to return, again take a deep breath and release it. Do this three times, and as you do so, become aware of the chair in which you sit, the floor on which you rest your feet, the sounds around you. When you are ready, open your eyes.

Know that you have set something in motion. You are using The Law of Attraction to draw in what you really want.

Repeat this exercise regularly. Notice that the more you practice, the easier it becomes to access your feelings. Adjust the wording to suit you.

Write down your sentence and read it daily, always engaging your emotions as you do so. Approach it with a sense of play.

The Law of Attraction Can Work for You

As you work with The Law of Attraction, new people, information and opportunities may cross your path. You need a way to integrate these into your life.

Here is my personal 4 step process for success, using The Law of Attraction:

1. Think about what you want.

2. Engage your emotions with this thought.

3. Pay attention to new information and opportunities.

4. Take action.

When you think about what you want, connect those thoughts with your emotions, and do this regularly and consistently, anything can happen.

It takes practice, patience, more practice. Play with it! Keep it light, keep it fun. You will get better at it, and it will become easier to say what you want, feel it, receive it.

One more thing, that we all know and sometimes forget.

Be grateful for the good things in your life that you now have.

This information and these techniques have been of tremendous value in my life. May they also be helpful to you in some way. I wish you the very best success.
