Increase Website Traffic

Attract Visitors to Your Central Hub

Implementing ways to increase website traffic is essential for your business.

You may have the best, most informative website in your niche, but if no one visits, then it is not supporting your marketing efforts.

Lets back up a bit, and start with a definition.

What Is Website Traffic?

Web traffic is the amount of data sent and received by visitors to a website.

–Wikipedia

Number of visitors your site receives Number of pages they visit

How often they visit

There are programs to help you monitor this information, so that not only can you stay abreast of how many visitors your site receives, but also
which pages are the most popular.

This informs you as to what people are looking for, and how often.

If you know these statistics, you can adjust your site and its content to meet the needs of your visitors, therefore increasing website traffic.

This is just good business.

Marketing and Links: Who and Where You Are

Directing traffic to your website can be accomplished with relevant links to your site, created through your marketing. The result?

Potential visitors know what your website is about and can find it.

Metaphorically, this could be compared to location in the offline world.

Location, Location, Location

Faye has decided to go into business for herself and open a shoe store specializing in upscale women’s dress shoes.

She looks around for a commercial space to lease and selects something affordable on a side street just off the downtown retail center.

After some promotional marketing, Faye sets up shop and opens her doors. Faye’s Quality Footwear does a decent amount of business, but attracts few walk-in customers.

Her competitor, Showcase Shoes by Shoshanna gets far more foot traffic. Why? The store is right on the corner of Main and Central, with a popular women's dress shop right next door.

So how do you create your website like Shoshana's storefront, to maximize, and over time, increase website traffic?

By using the online equivalent of location:

Keywords and SEO

There is a lot of talk on the Internet about keywords and search engine optimization or SEO.

Keywords and SEO are another method to increase website traffic.

Going back to our shoe store, if what we stock and sell are upscale, high quality shoes for women, then we want to reference that in our marketing material. Tastefully and judiciously, we leave no doubt as to what our shoe store has to offer.

The same is true of your website. You want both your human visitors and the search engines that direct them there, to know what each page of your website is all about.

Search engines, and the people who use them, find websites through keywords.

So what is a keyword?

A keyword is nothing more than a specific descriptive term for the topic you cover on a page of your website.

A keyword can be just one word, or a group of words.

Keywords are useful because they assist search engines in determining what your website, and any page within it, is all about. They need to know this in order to direct potential human visitors to your website.

Which brings us to how keywords are used on the Internet.

Search Engine Optimization

Keywords and search engine optimization go hand in hand. By using keywords within the content of your site, you optimize your website for the search engines.

Now they “know” the topic of your site, as well as each page within your site, and can direct human visitors, also known as traffic, to your website.

In short, with some careful planning, and a hefty dose of patience, your ranking in the search engines will improve.

What does this mean?

When someone types in “women’s dress shoes,” your site (or maybe Shoshanna’s) will begin to show up closer and closer to the top of the list, which helps you increase website traffic.

It’s like setting up shop on the corner of Main and Central.

And that’s a very good place to be.

Worried about how to figure out what words and phrases to use and where to place them?

There are programs available to help you determine not only what people actually search for, but how they search for it, relevant to your business.

Your job is to create good content, and place relevant keywords on each page of your web site.

That's how you create your site so that you can increase website traffic via the search engines.

This is known as organic traffic because they found you simply by typing a keyword into a search engine.

Discover and implement additional methods of driving traffic to your site, via your marketing efforts.
