Intended as a basic guide for the internet entrepreneur, these email marketing tips should help you get started.
Build A List Everyone in internet marketing talks about their list. What they are referring to is a list of email subscribers.
Building an email subscriber list is essential. It really is my Number One email marketing tip. Emphasis is on the word subscribers. This creates a list of people who have requested information from you. They are interested and want to hear from you. It’s wise to create several opportunities for people to become your subscribers. Here are 3 common ways. • Contact you directly
• Subscribe to your monthly newsletter
• Request to download something you offer | A website or blog is the most common venue for direct contact, through an opt-in form available on the site. Both a website and a blog are good venues for offering a monthly email newsletter, sometimes called an e-zine (see tip #3). And you can offer a download of that amazing ebook of yours from either a website or a blog as well. What is common to all of these examples is that the interested party was drawn in through quality information. Good content. In fact, content that is so good it draws them to ask for more. This person is a qualified lead.
Write an E-zine This email marketing tip dovetails off of the information above, and is worthy of further explanation. Creating your own E-zine may or may not be your cup of tea, but when you first start out, it can be a good way to build a subscriber list. It also creates another avenue of communication with the people on your list. Create a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or periodic email newsletter. Each issue can cover a specific topic in your niche. It’s a reminder in someone’s mailbox, and a good way to spark conversation. The newsletter can be as simple or as elaborate as you wish. Your logo and some graphics can catch their attention and may seem more professional.
Create An Email Campaign An email campaign is simply a series of messages delivered via email. It’s different than an e-zine, in that the series begins whenever the person appears. An email campaign is often designed to deliver information as a series of steps that inspire the reader to take action on the part of the recipient. So if you have an email campaign of a series of 6 emails, delivered once a week, someone may be receiving email #2 while someone else is receiving email #6. You can create several campaigns, and alternate between them. Another email marketing tip: Include a link to subscribe to your e-zine in your email campaign.
Maintain Contact When your subscriber list is still small, you may be able to send more personalized messages. As your list grows, you can use a broader message sent with the purpose of touching base. A good email marketing tip is to ask questions as a way of generating a response: • What information would you like for me to include in my e-zine? • How would you rate your experience with. . . ? • Would you be interested in a webinar on the following topic. . . ? Create an opening and a way for them to respond. You can do this with multiple choice answers or open-ended questions, depending on the topic and the niche.
Train & Support Your Team The first four email marketing tips relate to new prospects. If you work in network marketing, or any internet business that involves teamwork, email is an excellent way to maintain team cohesion. Use it for information sharing as well as education. • Welcome new team members • Use an email campaign as a training series for new recruits • Announce advancements and acknowledge accomplishments • Highlight products or services that are complementary to your business.
Use An Autoresponder A contact management system with an autoresponder is an absolute must as your subscriber list grows. An autoresponder is an automated email system, capable of sending pre-written emails at timed intervals. There are good systems available online for a low monthly fee. This kind of program is useful for organizing your contacts, creating groups and campaigns. You can create a “drip” email campaign that will automatically send the emails you set up, at the intervals you wish them to be sent. So once you set up a campaign, just set the start date for a particular person or group. Two popular autoresponder systems are Oprius and AWeber.

Spam Stories As baby boomers, many of us first heard the word “spam” from our parents. It may have come up as part of the stories told from days in the army. The loyal recruit would approach dinner, hoping that something else would appear on his plate, and yet day after day there it was: SPAM There is also the now famous “Spam Sketch” by the British comedy group: Monty Python’s Flying Circus. A couple is out for dinner at a restaurant that serves nothing but dishes that contain spam. The waitress repeats the word spam over and over and over, and even a song is sung by a group of Vikings(?!), who also repeat the word again and again and… You get the picture. My guess is the writer of that skit did a stint in the military. Just a guess. |
Attraction Marketing Prevents Spam
In the online world, spam is unsolicited and/or undesired email. Sometimes it refers to bulk email. There are several versions of how the term made the leap from tinned meat to unsolicited email. Just type the question into a search engine and enjoy reading the answers you find. You may notice that one thing I did not suggest on the list above is to send an email campaign to all of your friends and family. Why not? This is spam. IMPORTANT! Send your e-zine, email campaign or announcement only to those who have REQUESTED INFORMATION from you, or have done business with you in the past. |
Just as we do not like to receive spam, we do not want to send it. If you embrace and implement the concept of attraction marketing, you will avoid becoming a sender of spam. Let Monty Python serve up the spam.
